The story of "La Rocca"
It was an old, small and sleepy house when in 1978 Dorothée and Felix Krähenmann took over the management of the Garni "La Rocca", then called "Casa Bianca" and later "Casa Mimosa degli amanti della natura". A romantic garden surrounded the house with its ancient rooms, some of which had small balconies. There was only one shower on the floor and a shared bathroom; the rooms had only one washbasin.
Everything took place in the simple but practical kitchen. In one corner was the office and in the other the host personally cooked his good home cooking, much appreciated by the hotel's guests. Over the years, this old building, built in 1927, has given rise to some wonderful and professional ideas. Dorothée and Felix have worked tirelessly and with constant dedication. Annual renovations, sometimes major, have transformed this jewel over time. Thanks to a lots and loyal guests, they were able to realise their plans and create the atmosphere of an elegant 4-star hotel in Ticino. This was confirmed by the Swiss Hotel Association in 1994. In 2012, to the delight of the family, the youngest son took over the management with great idealism and continues to carry on the "legacy" with remarkable commitment. Renovations have already begun; plans are being drawn up and La Rocca is looking to the future with optimism.
Since 2019, La Rocca has been restructured into an independent joint-stock company, and a professional advisory board has been established to prepare for the future. We are now in the middle of detailed planning for the renovation of La Rocca; at the end of 2027, a chapter of the current La Rocca will close, as a very extensive renovation project involves a complete refurbishment, which will make the new La Rocca shine in enchanting splendour and offer guests a year-round open hotel with everything a guest could desire. The new La Rocca will feature an indoor infinity pool with views of the Brissago Islands, a Turkish bath, a sauna, a relaxation area and a treatment room for beauty treatments and massages. The restaurant will be located on the roof of the hotel, where a lobby and a cosy lounge with a panoramic view of Lake Maggiore will take our guests' breath away. All hotel rooms will once again offer a unique view of the lake, with spacious balconies and full room service. In addition, each room will have a spacious bathroom with a view of Lake Maggiore. With the stylish touch of Dorothée Krähenmann, the rooms will be furnished with special attention to individual design, with an eye for welcoming yet high quality design. The new La Rocca will be your home, where you'll want to stay and never leave. The reopening is scheduled for March 2030, just in time for the 100th anniversary - don't miss it! We kindly ask all guests in possession of a hotel voucher or gift certificate to specify it at the time of booking. Vouchers not announced during booking or at least 1 day before arrival may not be accepted. If the voucher does not cover the entire stay, the remaining payment can be made in cash, EC-Maestro, Visa, Mastercard, or Postcard. Payment of 50% in WIR will no longer be possible.
Long-stay discounts are valid only for bookings made directly by email or phone. You will receive the long-stay discount and other special discounts even with online bookings made on our website.
The daily exchange rate is applicable for payments in foreign currency. A fee of 0.05 is deducted for hotel expenses. For payments made in foreign currency with a card, the exchange rate of the credit card issuer applies.

Pets are always welcome on our terrace. Access to the Ristorante Panoramico and Bar La Rocca is not permitted. During the summer, you can reserve a table in our restaurant.

At our hotel, we have long been committed to continuous improvement in the area of sustainability, implementing various initiatives. We have phased out the use of single-use plastics, replacing them with reusable and biodegradable products, and installed automatic detergent dispensing systems in the laundry.
Collaboration with our partners to promote environmentally friendly forms of transport is very important, and we have also installed motion sensors in communal areas and corridors, thereby reducing energy consumption. As regards the management and administration of the facility, we have digitised our work processes to avoid paper waste and are working to eliminate the use of paper correspondence entirely across the various departments.
To encourage the use of public transport, we collaborate with Ticino Turismo and offer our guests the Ticino Ticket, which allows free use of public transport throughout Ticino and includes discounts on local attractions.
In terms of management, we have digitised our work plan to reduce paper waste and are committed to eliminating the use of paper correspondence between the various departments. We actively participate in the programme Cause We Care, which enables us to directly involve our guests in climate protection. With a small voluntary contribution from both the guest and the accommodation provider, the CO₂ emissions generated during the stay are offset, and part of the funds is allocated to three projects that are very close to our hearts:

The programme supports schools and health centres in Uganda by providing new water treatment technologies, reducing the consumption of firewood and coal, cutting CO₂ emissions and improving the living conditions and health of thousands of people.
Project 2: 7186 Afforestation Taking Root Nicaragua
CommuniTree is a participatory reforestation initiative in Nicaragua, which helps to restore ecosystems, support local communities and combat climate change by integrating tree planting into existing farming practices.
Project 3: 7223 REDD Yaeda Tanzania
The project promotes forest conservation and the land rights of indigenous peoples in Tanzania, preventing deforestation and safeguarding biodiversity between the Yaeda Valley and the Ngorongoro Plateau.
The project guarantees land rights to the indigenous population and strengthens the implementation of municipal land-use plans through forest conservation activities. The resulting reduction in deforestation prevents the release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere and ensures connectivity between the natural habitats of endangered animal species living between the Yaeda Valley and the Ngorongoro Plateau.
